HOWARD J. KAPLAN
Mr. Kaplan is a member of Arkin Kaplan Rice LLP.
Mr. Kaplan has extensive experience litigating cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States. Mr. Kaplan concentrates in complex commercial matters and investigations. He regularly represents clients in matters involving federal and state securities laws, business torts, fraud claims, fiduciary duty issues, corporate governance matters, employment disputes, and contract and licensing matters. Mr. Kaplan has handled internal investigations (including representing special committees), and has represented clients in connection with investigations and proceedings by the Securities & Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, State Attorneys General, and other governmental agencies. Mr. Kaplan also has handled litigation and investigations involving foreign companies and banks in international fraud investigations. Mr. Kaplan's clients include corporations, investment banks, hedge funds, venture capital firms, real estate developers, lawyers and law firms, and officers, directors and shareholders of public and private companies.
Mr. Kaplan received his B.S. in Chemistry from Albany State University in 1982 and his J.D. (magna cum laude) from New York Law School in 1988. Mr. Kaplan was Managing Editor of the New York Law School Law Review in 1987 and authored "Bystander Recovery: A Policy Oriented Approach," which was published in the New York Law School Law Review in 1988. After graduating from law school, Mr. Kaplan served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Edmund L. Palmieri, District Judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1988-1989. Mr. Kaplan joined the litigation group of Sullivan & Cromwell in 1989, and joined Arkin Kaplan Rice LLP in March, 1997. Mr. Kaplan is cochairman of the American Bar Association's subcommittee on criminal aspects of the securities laws, and is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
