Lisa Solbakken was recently featured in SHRM HR Quarterly discussing how the growing Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) movement is changing employee expectations and creating new considerations for employers.
Lisa highlights the drive and ambition often associated with employees pursuing FIRE, noting that many are “extremely successful, hardworking individuals” who are seeking financial independence after years of giving their careers their full effort.
She also emphasizes that employers need to adapt to the changing priorities of high-performing employees rather than simply trying to prevent them from leaving. As Lisa explains, this might take any number of forms, including a more responsive approach to employees’ lifestyle needs given the increased value high performers place on flexibility, autonomy and control over their time.
